The term is broad and encompasses virtually any handling of data.

„Pseudonymisation“ means processing personal data in such a manner that the personal data can no longer be attributed to a specific data subject without the use of additional information, provided that such additional information is kept separately and is subject to technical and organisational measures to ensure that the personal data are not attributed to an identified or identifiable natural person.

„Profiling“ means any automated processing of personal data consisting of the use of personal data to evaluate certain personal aspects relating to a natural person, in particular to analyze or predict aspects concerning that natural person's performance at work, economic situation, health, personal preferences, interests, reliability, behavior, location or movements.

The „controller“ is the natural or legal person, public authority, agency or other body which, alone or jointly with others, determines the purposes and means of the processing of personal data.

„Processor“ means a natural or legal person, authority, agency or other body which processes personal data on behalf of the controller.

Governing Legal Basis

In accordance with Article 13 of the GDPR, we inform you about the legal bases of our data processing. If the legal basis is not mentioned in the privacy policy, the following applies: The legal basis for obtaining consent is Article 6(1)(a) and Article 7 GDPR, the legal basis for processing for the fulfillment of our services and the execution of contractual measures as well as for responding to inquiries is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR, the legal basis for processing for the fulfillment of our legal obligations is Article 6(1)(c) GDPR, and the legal basis for processing for the protection of our legitimate interests is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. In the event that vital interests of the data subject or another natural person require the processing of personal data, Article 6(1)(d) GDPR serves as the legal basis.

Safety measures

In accordance with Article 32 GDPR, taking into account the state of the art, the costs of implementation and the nature, scope, circumstances and purposes of the processing as well as the varying risk of occurrence and severity to the rights and freedoms of natural persons, we shall implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to ensure a level of security appropriate to the risk.

The measures include, in particular, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data by controlling physical access to the data, as well as access to, input, disclosure, availability, and separation of the data. Furthermore, we have established procedures that ensure the exercise of data subject rights, deletion of data, and response to data breaches. We also consider the protection of personal data from the outset during the development or selection of hardware, software, and procedures, in accordance with the principle of data protection by design and by default (Art. 25 GDPR).

Cooperation with processors and third parties

To the extent that we disclose personal data to other persons and companies (processors or third parties), transmit it to them, or otherwise grant them access to the data in the course of our processing, this is only done on the basis of a legal permit (e.g., if disclosure of the data to third parties, such as payment service providers, is required for the performance of a contract pursuant to Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR), you have given your consent, a legal obligation provides for this, or on the basis of our legitimate interests (e.g., in the use of agents, web hosts, etc.).

If we commission third parties to process data based on a so-called „contract for processing,“ this is done based on Art. 28 GDPR.

Transfers to Third Countries

If we process data in a third country (i.e. outside the European Union (EU) or the European Economic Area (EEA)) or if this occurs in the context of the use of third-party services or disclosure or transfer of data to third parties, this will only take place if it is done to fulfill our (pre)contractual obligations, on the basis of your consent, on the basis of a legal obligation or on the basis of our legitimate interests. Subject to legal or contractual permissions, we only process or have the data processed in a third country if the special requirements of Art. 44 et seq. GDPR are met. This means, for example, that the processing takes place on the basis of special guarantees, such as the officially recognized determination of a level of data protection corresponding to the EU (e.g. for the USA through the „Privacy Shield“) or compliance with officially recognized special contractual obligations (so-called „standard contractual clauses“).

Rights of data subjects

You have the right to request confirmation of whether personal data is being processed and to access it, as well as further information and a copy of the data, in accordance with Art. 15 GDPR.

You have the right, according to Art. 16 GDPR, to request the completion of your personal data or the correction of inaccurate personal data.

As per Art. 17 GDPR, you have the right to demand that your personal data be erased without delay, or alternatively, as per Art. 18 GDPR, to demand a restriction on the processing of your data.

You have the right to request the data concerning you that you have provided to us in accordance with Art. 20 GDPR and to request its transmission to other controllers.

You also have the right, pursuant to Art. 77 GDPR, to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

Right of withdrawal

You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time with future effect, pursuant to Art. 7(3) GDPR.

Right to object

You may object to the future processing of your personal data at any time in accordance with Art. 21 GDPR. The objection can be made in particular against the processing for direct marketing purposes.

Cookies and the Right to Object to Direct Marketing

Cookies„ are small files that are stored on users“ computers. Different information can be stored within the cookies. A cookie is primarily used to store information about a user (or the device on which the cookie is stored) during or after their visit to an online service. Temporary cookies, or „session cookies“ or „transient cookies“, are cookies that are deleted after a user leaves an online service and closes their browser. The content of a shopping cart in an online store or a login status, for example, can be stored in such a cookie. Cookies that remain stored even after the browser is closed are referred to as „permanent“ or „persistent“. For example, the login status can be saved if the user visits the website after several days. The interests of users can also be stored in such a cookie and used for reach measurement or marketing purposes. „Third-party cookies“ are cookies that are offered by providers other than the controller who operates the online service (otherwise, if they are only the controller's cookies, they are referred to as „first-party cookies“).

We may use temporary and permanent cookies, and we explain this in our privacy policy.

If users do not want cookies to be stored on their computer, they are asked to disable the corresponding option in their browser's system settings. Stored cookies can be deleted in the browser's system settings. Excluding cookies may lead to functional limitations of this online service.

A general objection to the use of cookies for online marketing purposes can be made with a variety of services, especially in the case of tracking, via the US website http://www.aboutads.info/choices/ or the EU site http://www.youronlinechoices.com/ explained. Furthermore, cookies can be stored by disabling them in your browser settings. Please note that in this case, not all functions of this online offer may be available.

Data deletion

The data processed by us will be deleted or its processing restricted in accordance with Articles 17 and 18 GDPR. Unless expressly stated otherwise in this privacy policy, the data stored by us will be deleted as soon as it is no longer required for its intended purpose and there are no statutory retention obligations that prevent deletion. If the data is not deleted because it is required for other legally permissible purposes, its processing will be restricted. This means the data will be blocked and not processed for other purposes. This applies, for example, to data that must be retained for commercial or tax law reasons.

In accordance with legal requirements in Germany, storage is carried out for 10 years, in particular, pursuant to §§ 147 (1) AO, 257 (1) No. 1 and 4, (4) HGB (books, records, management reports, booking vouchers, commercial books, documents relevant for taxation, etc.) and for 6 years pursuant to § 257 (1) No. 2 and 3, (4) HGB (commercial letters).

According to Austrian legal requirements, retention periods are as follows: 7 years for accounting records, vouchers/invoices, accounts, business papers, income and expense statements, etc., in accordance with Section 132 (1) BAO; 22 years for records related to real estate; and 10 years for records related to electronically supplied services, telecommunications, radio, and television services provided to non-entrepreneurs in EU member states and for which the Mini One Stop Shop (MOSS) is used.

Amazon Associates Program

Based on our legitimate interests (i.e., interest in the economic operation of our online offering within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR), we are participants in the Amazon EU affiliate program, which is designed to provide a medium for websites to earn advertising fees by placing advertisements and links to Amazon.de (so-called affiliate system). This means that as an Amazon partner, we earn from qualifying purchases.

Amazon uses cookies to track the origin of orders. Among other things, Amazon can detect that you clicked the affiliate link on this website and subsequently purchased a product from Amazon.

Further information on Amazon's data usage and opt-out options can be found in the company's privacy policy: https://www.amazon.de/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=201909010.

Notice: Amazon and the Amazon logo are trademarks of Amazon.com, Inc. or its affiliates.

Registration function

Users can create a user account. During registration, users are informed of the required mandatory information, and this information is processed based on Article 6(1)(b) of the GDPR for the purpose of providing the user account. The processed data includes, in particular, login information (name, password, and an email address). The data entered during registration will be used for the purposes of using the user account and its purpose.

Users can be informed via email about information relevant to their user account, such as technical changes. If users have terminated their user account, their data pertaining to the user account will be deleted, subject to any statutory retention obligations. It is the responsibility of the users to secure their data before the end of the contract if they have terminated it. We are entitled to irrevocably delete all data stored by the user during the contract period.

In the context of using our registration and login functions, as well as the user account, we store the IP address and the time of each user action. The storage is based on our legitimate interests, as well as the user's interest in protection against misuse and other unauthorized use. These data are not generally passed on to third parties, unless it is necessary for the assertion of our claims or there is a legal obligation to do so pursuant to Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. c GDPR. The IP addresses will be anonymized or deleted no later than 7 days.

Comments and posts

When users leave comments or other contributions, their IP addresses may be stored for 7 days based on our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f. GDPR. This is done for our security in case someone leaves unlawful content in comments and posts (insults, forbidden political propaganda, etc.). In this case, we ourselves may be held liable for the comment or post, and are therefore interested in the identity of the author.

Furthermore, based on our legitimate interests pursuant to Art. 6 (1) (f) of the GDPR, we reserve the right to process user data for the purpose of spam detection.

The data provided in comments and contributions will be stored by us permanently until the user objects.

Comment subscriptions

Successor comments can be subscribed to by users with their consent according to Art. 6 para. 1 lit. a GDPR. Users will receive a confirmation email to verify that they are the owner of the entered email address. Users can unsubscribe from ongoing comment subscriptions at any time. The confirmation email will contain information on the cancellation options. For the purposes of proving user consent, we store the time of registration along with the user's IP address and delete this information when users unsubscribe from the subscription.

You can cancel our subscription at any time, meaning you can withdraw your consent. We may store the email addresses processed for up to three years based on our legitimate interest before deleting them, in order to be able to prove a previously given consent. The processing of this data will be limited to the purpose of potentially defending against claims. An individual deletion request is possible at any time, provided that the former existence of consent is also confirmed.

Akismet Anti-Spam Check

Our online offer uses the service „Akismet,“ provided by Automattic Inc., 60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA. This is used based on our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR. This service helps to distinguish genuine comments from spam comments. To do this, all comment data is sent to a server in the USA, where it is analyzed and stored for comparison purposes for four days. If a comment is classified as spam, the data will be stored beyond this period. This data includes the entered name, email address, IP address, comment content, referrer, details about the browser used and the computer system, and the time of entry.

Further information about Akismet's data collection and use can be found in Automattic's Privacy Policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

Users are welcome to use pseudonyms, or to opt out of entering their name or email address. You can prevent data transmission entirely by not using our comment system. That would be unfortunate, but unfortunately, we see no other equally effective alternatives.

Fetching profile pictures from Gravatar

We use the Gravatar service from Automattic Inc., 60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA, within our online offering and especially in the blog.

Gravatar is a service where users can sign up and store profile pictures and their email addresses. When users leave posts or comments on other online presences (primarily blogs) with the respective email address, their profile pictures can be displayed next to the posts or comments. For this purpose, the email address provided by the users is encrypted and transmitted to Gravatar to check if a profile is stored for it. This is the sole purpose of transmitting the email address, and it is not used for any other purpose but is deleted afterward.

The use of Gravatar is based on our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR, as Gravatar allows us to offer contributors and commenters the option to personalize their posts with a profile picture.

By displaying images, Gravatar learns the IP address of users, as this is necessary for communication between a browser and an online service. Further information on the collection and use of data by Gravatar can be found in Automattic's privacy policy: https://automattic.com/privacy/.

If users do not want a profile picture linked to their email address on Gravatar to appear in comments, they should use an email address for commenting that is not registered with Gravatar. We also point out that it is possible to use an anonymous or no email address at all if users do not wish for their own email address to be sent to Gravatar. Users can prevent data transfer entirely by not using our comment system.

Emoji and Smiley Retrieval

Within our WordPress blog, graphical emojis (or smileys), which are small graphical files that express emotions, are used and loaded from external servers. In this process, the providers of the servers collect users' IP addresses. This is necessary so that the emoji files can be transmitted to the users' browsers. The emoji service is offered by Automattic Inc., 60 29th Street #343, San Francisco, CA 94110, USA. Privacy notices from Automattic: https://automattic.com/privacy/. The server domains used are s.w.org and twemoji.maxcdn.com, which to our knowledge are so-called Content Delivery Networks, i.e., servers that merely serve for fast and secure transmission of files and whose personal user data is deleted after transmission.

The use of emojis is based on our legitimate interests, i.e., our interest in an attractive design of our online offering in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR.

Soundcloud

Our podcasts are stored and played back on the platform „Soundcloud,“ offered by SoundCloud Limited, Rheinsberger Str. 76/77, 10115 Berlin, Germany.

For this purpose, we embed so-called SoundCloud widgets on our website. These are playback software that allow users to play the podcasts. SoundCloud can measure which podcasts are listened to and to what extent, and process this information pseudonymously for statistical and business purposes. For this, cookies can be stored in users' browsers and processed for the creation of user profiles, e.g. for the purpose of displaying advertisements that correspond to the potential interests of users. In the case of users who are registered with SoundCloud, SoundCloud can assign the listening information to their profiles.

Use is based on our legitimate interests, i.e., interest in the secure and efficient provision, analysis, and optimization of our audio offering, in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f GDPR.

Further information and objection options can be found in Soundcloud's privacy policy: https://soundcloud.com/pages/privacy.

Contact

When you contact us (e.g., via contact form, email, phone, or social media), your details will be processed to handle your contact request and its execution in accordance with Art. 6 para. 1 lit. b) GDPR. User data may be stored in a Customer Relationship Management System („CRM System“) or a comparable inquiry organization system.

We delete requests when they are no longer required. We review the necessity every two years; furthermore, statutory retention obligations apply.

Hosting and email sending,

The hosting services we use are for providing the following services: infrastructure and platform services, computing capacity, storage space and database services, email sending, security services, and technical maintenance services, which we use for the purpose of operating this online offering.

In this context, we, or our hosting provider, process inventory data, contact data, content data, contract data, usage data, meta and communication data of customers, interested parties and visitors to this online offer on the basis of our legitimate interests in an efficient and secure provision of this online offer in accordance with Art. 6 Para. 1 lit. f GDPR in conjunction with Art. 28 GDPR (conclusion of a data processing agreement).

Collection of access data and log files

We, or rather our hosting provider, collect data on every access to the server on which this service is located based on our legitimate interests within the meaning of Art. 6 para. 1 lit. f. GDPR (so-called server log files). Access data includes the name of the retrieved website, file, date and time of retrieval, amount of data transferred, message about successful retrieval, browser type and version, the user's operating system, referrer URL (the previously visited page), IP address, and the requesting provider.

Log file information is stored for a maximum of 7 days for security reasons (e.g., to investigate abuse or fraud) and then deleted. The IP address is therefore required to display this content. We endeavor to only use content whose respective providers only use the IP address to deliver the content. Third-party providers may also use so-called pixel tags (invisible graphics, also known as „web beacons“) for statistical or marketing purposes. Pixel tags can be used to analyze information such as visitor traffic on the pages of this website. In doing so, usage profiles of the users can be created from the processed data. We therefore have no influence on the scope of the data that Facebook collects with the help of this plugin and therefore inform users according to our knowledge.

By integrating the plugins, Facebook receives information that a user has visited the respective page of the online offering. If the user is logged into Facebook, Facebook can assign the visit to their Facebook account.
