Hawaii Day 25: Today we went to Waimea Canyon, the Grand Canyon of the Pacific. The drive there was already impressive. The area is so beautifully green, especially after the rains from the hurricane. On the pass road that leads up to the canyon, we have to stop again and again to take photos. There are so many viewpoints and lookouts here. After a short lunch break on red volcanic sand, we set off for the last viewpoint of the tour. The Kalalau Lookout.<\/p>\n
Our equipment was a bit weak today, as we were only wearing flip-flops and didn't have any food or drink with us. You don't really need that for a viewpoint anyway. However, this one was about 3 km up in the mountains and led there via exposed paths. Muddy, full of roots and stones, and also with a few climbing passages. Exactly to our taste \u263a<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
After about an hour and several attempts to turn back, we reached the lookout. The hike was worth it, because the view was phenomenal.<\/p>\n
We only met another couple up there, and thus the first Swiss people on our Hawaii trip. The two were, amusingly, from Chur. It's a small world.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Our flip-flops caked in mud and slightly dehydrated, we then headed back to the car, where a bottle of hot coconut water awaited us. Yuck!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Next stop: Supermarket!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
On the way home, we found a coffee plantation that we looked at. Very delicious coffee grows here. Yummy!<\/p>\n
