Every now and then, when the weather is nice, we're drawn to the St. Gallen Rhine Valley to relax with a walk around Werdenberg\u00a0To let one's hair down. Werdenberg, a tiny village with historic town rights, currently has about 60 inhabitants. It calls itself the smallest town in Switzerland. I don't want to go into the competition with the town of F\u00fcrstenau in Graub\u00fcnden here. There are countless stories, posts, and articles about that.<\/p>\n
Werdenberg in Sankt Gallen is definitely always worth a visit. The town itself belongs to the municipality of Grabs and is essentially a large museum. It naturally attracts an incredible number of tourists. Today we are lucky and at least the only visitors at the castle.<\/p>\n
But what exactly can you do in Werdenberg?<\/p>\n
On a nice day, a walk around the lake is recommended, which will automatically lead you through Werdenberg. There are several restaurants and an ice cream parlor right on the lake. Right next to the lake, in Buchs, there is a large parking lot that offers direct access to the lake. The walk around the lake itself takes approximately 20-30 minutes. So it's a small lake \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n
In the small town, you should definitely walk up to the castle. This takes about 5 minutes via the stairs and about 10 minutes via the small path. The view from up there is great. You can see far down into the Rhine Valley and, of course, over Werdenberg, the lake, and Buchs. There is a bistro at the castle itself where you can stop for a good meal and refreshments. The Werdenberg Festival doesn't always have to be on. Sometimes it's wonderfully pleasant to enjoy the peace and quiet up there.<\/p>\n
The castle itself belongs to one of the two larger museums in Werdenberg. It can be visited on your own. However, you'll need tickets, which can be purchased at the bistro. From April onwards, there will also be regular guided tours throughout the summer that you can join. I can highly recommend these tours. You'll learn a lot about the town and the old county. Additionally, there are many exhibitions and festivals held there. It's best to get information on the Website<\/a>. There you will always find the current program.<\/p>\n In the Snake House, the former life in Switzerland's smallest town is presented. The story is conveyed impressively, and you see the transformation of the town from the Middle Ages to the present day.<\/p>\n So, if you're in the surrounding area, in Liechtenstein, St. Gallen, or Grisons, you should definitely plan a short trip to Werdenberg.
