Our trips with HomeExchange
🏴 England
🇸🇪 Sweden
🇨🇦 Canada
🇮🇸 Iceland – planned
We have been travelling as a family with HomeExchange for years. Instead of hotel rooms we get real apartments with kitchens, living rooms and space for everyone. In England we had an entire terraced house, in Sweden an apartment right on the water, in Canada a house with a garden. The travel experience is completely different – you actually live locally instead of just being a tourist.
What you actually save
Accommodation makes up an average of 35% of travel costs. With HomeExchange this expense almost disappears entirely. An example for one week of family travel:
Hotel / Holiday rental
7 nights family hotel: €1,400
Breakfast not included
One room, limited space
No own kitchen
Approx. €1,400 – €2,000
With HomeExchange
Accommodation: €0 (GuestPoints)
Fully equipped kitchen
Entire apartment or house
Membership: ~€220/year
Approx. €220 per year

How it works
1
Create your profile and list your home – free in 15 minutes. You immediately receive 1,300 GuestPoints as a welcome bonus, enough for several nights.
2
Collect GuestPoints – by hosting other members. You decide when and whether anyone comes.
3
Search for your destination and send a request – you can see all available homes on a map. Message the host and ask about available dates.
4
Book your stay and pay with GuestPoints – one night costs an average of 150-180 GuestPoints. For a week you need around 1,000-1,260 GP.
5
Experience real travel – pick up the keys and move in. Travel like a local, not like a tourist.
„We have travelled to England, Sweden and Canada with HomeExchange – with kids, no hotel stress and at a fraction of the usual cost. In England we had an entire house to ourselves. Iceland is next on the list.“

Frequently asked questions
Do I have to give up my home?
No, you decide yourself when and whether guests come. You can also travel as a guest first and become a host later. Your calendar stays under your control at all times.
What does the membership cost?
The annual membership costs approximately €220. This gives you unlimited swaps and all guarantees included. After your second family holiday per year you have already recouped the cost.
How safe is it?
All members are verified with ID. HomeExchange provides insurance and support for every swap. The review system means you always know who you are dealing with.
Does it work with young children?
Yes, it is actually ideal for families with children. More space, your own kitchen, and many homes already have kids‘ toys, high chairs, bikes and cots. You can filter for these specifically when searching.
What are GuestPoints exactly?
GuestPoints are the internal currency of HomeExchange. You earn them by hosting guests and spend them when staying with others. One night costs between 100 and 300 GP depending on the location and property.
Can I travel without hosting anyone?
Yes. You can collect GuestPoints by hosting and then travel independently whenever you want. Small amounts of GuestPoints can also be purchased directly through HomeExchange.
What happens if something gets damaged?
HomeExchange provides insurance that covers damage. In practice damage is extremely rare because members treat each other’s homes the way they would want their own treated.
