5 Lakes Hike Pizol

One of my favorite hikes. The 5 Lakes hike Pizol in the canton of St. Gallen. An absolute highlight every time. I've walked this tour countless times, but the panorama is unique every time =) Today we started the tour from Wangs. From there, a gondola and then two chairlifts take you to the Pizolhütte at 2227 m. First, get your gear ready, and then we set off for the Wildseelücke (2493 m). Oh, by the way, before I forget. If you want to see the first lake, the Wangsersee, you have to briefly keep left and walk up the hill for a few minutes. That's where it's hidden. Since it's not really worth seeing...ahem, seeing, I always skip it. So, I'm actually only ever doing a 4-lake hike *g*

5 Lakes Hike

After Wildseelücke, you have a wonderful view of the… Wildsee 🙂 You can take your first break there, as the initial ascent is quite strenuous. Continue on a slight downhill to the third lake, the Schottensee, my favorite lake. I always take a longer break there and enjoy the view. As I did this time.

The trail continues over the Schwarzplangg to Schwarzsee, where you can also take a leisurely walk around if you still have excess energy. From here, it's just an ascent, so you'll soon be done with your hike. On the way to Baschalvasee at 2174 m, you'll pass a whole host of legendary Steinmannlis. We took another break here and enjoyed the view of the Rhine Valley. You'll be resting directly above Sargans and looking towards Lake Constance, which you can't see, however. Instead, you'll be looking directly at the summit of Gonzen.

Anyway, from here on the 5-lake hike at Pizol is practically only downhill *g* Via Gamidaur, you reach the Baschalvasee (see above) and walk down and down and down. It goes down several hundred meters before you reach the Gaffia station. There you have the opportunity to stop for a delicious barley soup, yummy!
