Hike to Gonzen – Sargans' Landmark

Above the beautiful village of Sargans in the Rhine Valley of St. Gallen, a rock face approximately 500 meters high rises majestically. This belongs to the landmark from Sargans, the Gonzen. Although it is not the local mountain of the municipality, which is the Fläscher Berg, the Gonzen appears by far the most imposing compared to the other mountains in the vicinity. The hike to the Gonzen can be easily done at Gonzen Mine start. I've been to Gonzen several times and started there every time.

Hike to Gonzen

You walk above the castle into the Laui forest, where you gain the first meters of altitude on a forest road. The mountain path splits a little later, and you have the option to ascend via a ladder. I always take this route going up; on the way back, I take the easier option. The path is marked as an alpine path from the fork, but this is only because of the sections just before the ladder. After that, the path becomes easier again, and you no longer have to overcome any steep passages. The ascent itself is already worthwhile on this hike. You repeatedly get a great view of the Rhine Valley and over to Liechtenstein.

At just under 1500 m, you now reach the Gasthaus Gonzen. You can comfortably stop here and even stay overnight if you've had enough for today. I've always walked past it because I always have provisions with me. But it looks cozy 🙂

Continuing on, you walk towards Alp Folla, which is located at 1670 m. From here, you have a great panoramic view, and it's not much further to the summit now. It takes about another half an hour from here.

Gone Peak

Upon arrival, you are treated to a sensational view of the Sarganserland region. You can see into the Rhine Valley of Chur, the Rhine Valley of St. Gallen, the Principality of Liechtenstein, and almost all the way to Lake Walen. Don't be alarmed if climbers suddenly appear on the other side of the summit. That's where the aforementioned steep wall is, and it's a preferred route for climbers 🙂

[Promotion] My new fleece jacket from RevolutionRace

Since the weather can surprise you spontaneously, you should always have a jacket with you on such a hike. I usually bring a light fleece in spring and summer. For example, the Fusion Fleece from the Swedish brand RevolutionRace. The outdoor brand RevolutionRace offers affordable outdoor clothing. By not using conventional sales channels, products can be passed on to customers more cheaply.

Look around Online shop Try on the items. It's always worth browsing there and you can really complete your equipment cheaply. Regarding the quality, I can only say that the price-performance ratio is absolutely right.

The Fusion Fleece Jacket, who gave it to me for testing RevolutionRace It's a great jacket, no less than other brands. The craftsmanship is flawless. It's comfortable to wear, and you feel good in it from the very first second. Since it's breathable, I sometimes wear the jacket for the entire hike. While it's not lightweight at 470g, it keeps you nice and warm, and I believe this also has a positive impact on the jacket's quality and lifespan. The thumbhole is also a great feature, especially when it's a bit cooler.

Thanks again to RevolutionRace for this great vest.
