Lenzerheide – Always worth a visit

[Advertisement] Today I headed to Lenzerheide. After sub-zero temperatures and snowfall last week, the sky is finally opening up again and showing its blue side.

Perfect for trying out my new Gaastra outdoor jacket and taking you on a beautiful loop around the Heidsee. As a resident now, more or less, I regularly find myself drawn to Lenzerheide because the place is magical. Nicely situated in the valley, surrounded by massive mountains, it invites Lenzerheide invites you to relax and linger. Of course, also for hiking, but unfortunately that's not possible at the moment, as there is still snow, at least partially, down to the valley.

Where does the Lenzerheide Lake walk start?

Lenzerheide

I always start in Valbella, the small village before you get to Lenzerheide when you're coming from Chur. If you're coming from Tiefenkastel, then Lenzerheide is a good starting point. Basically, the left and right sides of the lake.

In the gallery below, you'll see some beautiful perspectives of the lake.

Winter

In winter, it's always drained because the cross-country ski trail runs across the lake. Spring, or the off-season in general, is when I like to be up there. There are hardly any tourists, and you have the beautiful landscape almost to yourself.

Lakeside beach

In the summer, there is a large public swimming area, and anglers can be found bustling along the lake path. Windsurfing is also available, and pedal boats can be rented. Many barbecue areas are also available around the lake and can be used free of charge. There is even free firewood, and that's in Switzerland 😉

Places to eat in Lenzerheide

In Lenzerheide itself, there's a nice place to stop for refreshments at the bakery. Stgier (No idea how to pronounce that *g*). The winter garden offers a fantastic view of Piz Scalottas and, of course, the rest of the superb mountain panorama.

But also the various hotels nearby, especially the Schweizerhof, which I can highly recommend to you. They have great lunch menus and you can sit comfortably outside on the sun terrace.

Last but not least, there's a kiosk at the lido and playground, as well as one at the Valbella parking lot. Both offer hot and cold snacks, as well as ice cream and coffee.

Weather and equipment

In the summer, it's naturally a bit cooler in Lenzerheide than in the Churer Rhine Valley, as the village is located at 1500 meters above sea level. In April, temperatures there are around 7-10 degrees Celsius. Since a cool wind blows there at this time, I was all the more looking forward to my new jacket. Yes, it's the beautiful yellow one in the pictures 🙂

Gaastra

The Rainjacket Men is new to Gaastra's product range. Since this jacket is made of waterproof and windproof material, I was able to thoroughly test its windproof qualities today. And lo and behold, despite the cold wind, I stayed nice and warm. Okay, a break wasn't possible today, as despite thermal underwear, the cold air was then drawn in from below. The Rainjacket Men is, of course, as the name suggests, a rain jacket. Originally made for the coast and therefore in a maritime design, I find it particularly exciting to wear the jacket in the Alps 😉

Is the jacket waterproof?

The fit of the jacket is perfect. It can be practically closed at the bottom of the legs with a drawstring, and the hood and sleeves are adjustable. When running, it clings comfortably to the body and doesn't stick out awkwardly like some other jackets do. What I particularly like is also the inside zip pocket, which has space for a cell phone.

Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test the jacket's waterproofness yet, but I'll keep you updated.

Gaastra – From Sailmaker to Sportswear Professional

The Dutch brand Gaastra was founded as early as 1897. Initially concentrated on sailing and windsurfing equipment, the first sportswear was developed in 1996. The brand gradually established itself in Europe. Today, you can even find a Gaastra shop in the USA.

The Rainjacket Men is my first jacket from the Gaastra brand, but certainly not my last. Check out the shop. There is now a huge selection of clothing, not just jackets. All in a maritime design, sometimes chic and still sporty.
