The coolest family hike in Dornbirn

Our children love nature. They prefer to be outdoors, in any weather. Today we're lucky and the sky is bright blue. Perfect for a family hike in Dornbirn. The local mountain in Dornbirn is the Karren. At 976 m above sea level, it's more of a hill. But a hill with a gondola, and that's naturally ideal for families, especially when the kids are still small.

At the valley station of the Karren cable car in Dornbirn, we are greeted by Theo the hiking bear. The kids hug him extensively while we wait for the gondola. It runs every 15 minutes, at least in the summer. We ascend 512 meters to the Karren. The kids are excited because we haven't ridden a cable car in the last two years. We enjoy the ride and the view of Dornbirn as well as the look into the Switzerland over.

The gondola takes us directly to a beautiful restaurant with an outdoor area in the summer. We enjoy the view of the valley with a delicious coffee and fortify ourselves a little for the upcoming hike. The kids climb and play on the playground while we enjoy a few minutes alone.

Right next to the restaurant is a glass observation deck that will send your adrenaline levels soaring. Of course, that's just with us adults. Our kids immediately run to the glass pane and look down into the valley.

This is a great spot for taking photos. You have a wonderful view of Dornbirn and the surrounding area, and you can even see Lake Constance on the horizon.

Directly next to the Karren mountain restaurant, head right downhill. You'll pass a few more viewpoints, and the view opens up to the Kühberg, which borders the Karren directly. Afterwards, head downhill into the forest towards the valley.

For the slightly older kids (around 7 or 8 and up), there's a treasure hunt along the path. Can you find the legendary treasure that has been hidden on the cart for over 200 years?

We didn't find him 🙂 However, our kids are still a bit too young for it.

We enjoyed the descent and discovered many cool rocks, snails, and other little creatures.
