USA Day 3: Seattle, Boeing, Astoria (2014-09-28)

USA Day 3: Today we slept in. At 7 am, there was just as lavish a breakfast as the day before. Helene skipped the shabby coffee, while Dennis has already gotten used to it.

1. Agenda item: Tour of the Boeing factory in Seattle.

Dennis: A really exciting company. The manufacturing halls, housed in the largest building in the world (by volume), are mega interesting and truly worth seeing. The 747, 767, 777, and the Dreamliner (787) are manufactured there. It was impressive to see four Dreamliners right next to each other in an assembly hall.

Helene: It's insane that all of Disneyland fits inside this building.

Furthermore, she was looking forward to a cozy dinner for two, as were probably the other women in the group. At least you could see a smile on everyone's face.

After the tour, we headed straight south. Our first driver change occurred here, after the 5-lane highway narrowed to 2 lanes. Helene then drove our sleek white Dodge Charger, without a rear windshield wiper, for the first time. We passed Olympia and continued on to Astoria, on the Columbia River. In this pretty harbor town, we found ourselves on the set of Criminal Minds, or at least our motel there gave that impression. Our room, however, was unexpectedly clean, quiet, and located right on the water.
