USA Day 21: Phoenix, Desert, San Diego (2014-10-16)

USA Day 21: A meager, bad breakfast at the hotel, and then on towards Phoenix Downtown. There, we first had a delicious coffee at Starbucks and wrote a few postcards.

By the way, for anyone who hasn't received a map from us yet, you can look forward to an even nicer one at our last stop 🙂

Since we've planned a „travel day“ today, we unfortunately have to get going already. We want to reach San Diego in about 6 hours.

Will anything come of this plan?

First stop, Robbins Butte Wildlife Area, just past Phoenix. Here a sign promised a viewpoint with a rest stop. Top-notch! Helene preferred to stay in the car because of the wild animals, so Dennis went out alone.

There are supposed to be coyotes, snakes, and giant spiders here. The tracks in the sand revealed that there are even bigger animals here, and Dennis must be on the wrong side of the electric fence. Right, we drove through a gate. Oops… When a few people with shotguns came towards us, it was the right time to return to the car and rather drive on towards San Diego.

On a overview map at the exit, we then also saw that this is a hunting area and that we had already driven past the rest stop.

Second stop of the day trip: a desert at the Mexican border. It was so beautiful here that we had to climb up various sand dunes. The sunset, in particular, created a wonderfully beautiful atmosphere.

San Diego can wait, and we'd rather play in the sand a little longer.

But hunger eventually drove us back onto the highway and we reached San Diego around 8:30.

Quick stop at Taco Bell and check into the hotel.
