Hawaii Day 30: After seeing the island from the air two days ago, a kayak tour is planned for today. On the Wailua River, we paddle leisurely for two hours north. There, we're supposed to find the Secret Falls, which are advertised all over the island.
After vigorous paddling, we now have to walk through the jungle for about 40 minutes.
It's great that we're both wearing our new hiking boots, as the path is supposed to be very rocky and bumpy. At first, there was no mention of mud or the river we have to cross. We learned that the best way to walk is to „be one with the mud.“ Alright then. And indeed, when the boots are full of mud, it feels like walking barefoot.
We now have perfect rainforest weather. It's pouring rain, but the rain is warm and creates the right atmosphere.
The waterfall that we actually reach at some point is 25 m high and super beautiful. It invites you to swim, but we are already wet to our underwear anyway. Therefore, there is a snack by the water first. We also nibbled on local plants along the way. We found red berries that taste like honey. Yummy.
