The 5 Most Beautiful Lakes in Saarland

There are some particularly beautiful lakes in Saarland. In general, Saarland has a lot of beautiful things to offer, but its lakes are always worth a trip. Hiking, swimming, relaxing – these are just a few of the activities you can experience and do at Saarland's beaches and lakes. As the most beautiful state in the world, Saarland offers many small ponds and some great larger lakes. There is no particular order in the following post. The lakes are listed as we visited them.

Losheim Reservoir

The Losheimer See is a reservoir and is located in 66679 Losheim am See, which is in northern Saarland. Between Merzig and Wadern, 300 m ab NHN. It was only created between 1972 and 1974 as a recreation and swimming lake.

In the summer, a lido, a mini-golf course, and local diving clubs should also not go unmentioned.

A 4.1 km hiking trail surrounds the reservoir, which was completely paved a few years ago, making it comfortable to skate around the lake as well.

Places to eat

You can stop at Café Seegarten. It's best to check the opening hours directly on the Website as these change depending on the season. In winter, the cafe is only open in the afternoon for about 2 hours. Hochwälder Brewery It's open daily from 11 AM to 1 AM. This is also the ideal starting point for the lake circuit. If you then have a beer at the brewery, the parking fees are waived.

Even in winter, the lake has a great atmosphere to offer. You can walk around the lake in sunshine or rain, as it is completely asphalted. Clockwise there is an ascent of approx. 30 meters in altitude, counterclockwise there are no major ascents.

Along the lake circuit, paths cross the Saar-Hunsrück Trail or numerous other hiking trails in Saarland. There are many lakes in Saarland, but Losheimer See is right up there at the top.

Noswendeler Lake

Noswendeler Lake

Noswendel is an idyllic village near 66687 Wadern, also located in the northern Saarland. Noswendel has only approx. 1250 inhabitants and is situated at 282 m above sea level. NHN. In 1979, the 6.6-hectare Noswendeler See was established and has served as a local recreation area ever since. The Noswendeler nature reserve, „Noswendeler Bruch,“ with an area of approximately 100 hectares, is incidentally the largest wetland biotope in Saarland. One of the most beautiful lakes in Saarland.

As is well known, a healthy lifestyle includes 20-30 minutes of leisurely walking every day. The Noswendel Lake is ideal for this, as its circular trail is just about 30 minutes long. Over a distance of 2.5 km, a path that is partly paved, partly asphalted, but mostly a gravel path, leads around the lake.

In addition, there is a Kneipp pool with fresh spring water and a barefoot path, which can be used free of charge.

Pedal boat rental Noswendel

A family outing to the lake wouldn't be complete without a pedal boat ride. Noswendel has comfortable pedal boats that you can rent affordably here. Of all the lakes in Saarland, we like pedal boating in Noswendel the best. Why not try it yourself?.

You can stop for refreshments directly by the lake, although this is mostly only on Sundays. Homemade cakes are offered there at particularly family-friendly prices. Various clubs regularly celebrate there on Sundays, and different highlights such as the lantern festival or the autumn and slaughter festival are known far beyond the region and attract people from all over the surrounding area.

Noswendel playground

Anyone traveling with family knows how to appreciate good playgrounds. So do we, and that's why we love to go to Noswendel See with our kids. There's a wonderful playground here with slides, swings, and a climbing frame. Plus, the playground is always visited by ducks. This delights our kids every time.

Bostalsee

seen im saarland - bostalsee

The Bostalsee reservoir is my personal favorite lake. I love the long walks around this idyllic lake. The circular path is about 6.8 km long. It's now completely paved, so you can also go rollerblading, for example. For children, there are many playgrounds, pony rides, a climbing garden, a beach, and so on.

One of the coolest attractions is definitely the „Upside-Down House,“ which naturally draws many tourists to the Sankt Wendel region.

Furthermore, there is a Center Park located right by the lido. In addition to various restaurants, it also offers an indoor playground and even a shop where you can buy all the basics, even on Sundays. We use this now and then, as shops and supermarkets are often closed in Germany on Sundays.

Places to eat

Lake Bostal offers numerous opportunities for refreshments. The beer garden at Bosiland (former wave pool) is particularly inviting for a relaxing stay.

Haanweiher Lockweiler

Haanweiher Lockweiler

It's not a bathing lake and not a lake in itself, as the name suggests. Nevertheless, I don't want to leave this pond unmentioned. The Haanweiher in Lockweiler is wonderful for relaxing and unwinding.

Festivals are regularly held at Haanweiher, mostly organized by the Angling Club.

Dösterhof Estate

Meanwhile, the Haanweiher seems to have Dösterhof Estate to belong in the homeland. The Dösterhof writes the following about the Haanweiher:

Find relaxation and unique fishing experiences at the natural body of water, Haanweiher. Enjoy time and tranquility while fishing and our diverse fish population. The Haanweiher is open to those seeking relaxation for nature observation and walks. Purchase your fishing permit at the Dösterhof.

Fish you can find in the Haanweiher include brown trout, rainbow trout, char, carp, and roach.

I can also recommend the short but beautiful hike up to the Haankapelle. You can start right by the pond.
