USA Day 10: Today is about train travel. Right after breakfast, we headed to the railway museum. Jamestown is featured in many Westerns and Hollywood films.
has been used as a setting for train scenes.
So we could see the famous Unit 3 watch, which for example appears in the movie „Back to the Future III“.
The railroad line was one of the first in the USA and was used to transport gold and later lumber. It also offered the opportunity to travel to Sacramento within a few hours, which previously took several days.
Now it was off to the ticket counter. Dennis was already very excited and Helene found it funny. But it was sooo interesting. A real locomotive, built around 1900, and a route that was used for many train robberies in old Westerns. Furthermore, the locomotive pushed the DeLorean, allowing it to reach 140 km/h and travel through time. A man simply MUST find that interesting.
Well, we all didn't know the classic, old black and white movies.
The train ride was exciting for both of them then. The area with the many ranches was super beautiful and the uncoupling of the locomotive was again very impressive (for Dennis).
Helene found the engineer funnier, who looked like Santa Claus in a Halloween costume.
After a visit to the large, still-operational workshops, where Dennis felt like a little boy playing (*g*), we continued on to San Francisco. Helene insisted on driving the first part of the journey because Dennis absolutely wanted to accelerate to 140 km/h to travel into the future. However, the latter is not allowed in California, so Helene drove until the highway became five lanes wide.
Arriving in San Francisco, we found an inexpensive hotel in SOMA, South Of Market, a district in downtown San Francisco. We stayed there for two nights and took an evening stroll through „our neighborhood.“.
